Wild things thrive

From the Evening Press, first published Wednesday 12th May 2004.

WITH all the sightings around the country by sensible people there can be no denying that big cats, which have either escaped or been freed from captivity, thrive in our countryside alongside all the other creatures.

They are secretive and live off the land, culling rabbits and other pests for food.

How long will it be before the huntin', shootin' brigade will want to exterminate these lovely animals in the interest of "public safety"?

These creatures should be protected by law and allowed to continue to flourish on the moors and in the forests.

It is not so many years ago that wolves and wildcats roamed the land.
