Give it a chance

THE Inclusive York Forum supports the efforts to find a suitable location for the Arc Light project.

The forum is a group of representatives from City of York Council and various local charities who work with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Its aim is to promote the right of all residents in York, including homeless people, to have a say in plans that are made about the future of the city.

No one can deny the value of Arc Light nor the benefits it has brought to its residents, and to the wider community. As the Rev Paul Wordsworth has so clearly explained, although its building in Leeman Road is quite inadequate, its presence there has not blighted the area nor brought harm to local people.

People who are homeless come from all walks of life and it is quite unjustified to view them as more threatening than any other group.

We hope that a well-run service like Arc Light, which is as sensitive to the wishes of its neighbours as it is to the needs of its residents, will be given a fair chance to find a new home.
